Pattern Manager by Sterling Augustine is a little application that will allow you to change the background of your desk accessories. From the read me: "It displays patterns with their names in a user-sizable grid, installs patterns into the System File, and sets the utilities pattern (which other desktop pattern installers don't do). It fully supports drag and drop between files, the Scrapbook, the Finder, and any other program that supports drag and drop. Just click on a pattern and drag it where you want it. It fully supports cut and paste (of course). It has the best PICT importer available, and, remarkable for a desktop pattern manager, it has resizeable windows. It also has a nifty pattern information window, and can change the background pattern periodically."

Peek-a-Boo by Clarkwood Software is a Mac OS Process analyzing tool. With it you can monitor and manipulate all running processes. Additionally, you can "watch how much CPU time each process uses, adjust the CPU time requested by each process, and look at any piece of information available through the Process Manager."

Every now and then a person finds they want variety for their desktop background but may not want to mess with using desktop pictures. They are perfectly happy with a pattern! Imagine if you could have a new one generated everytime you start up too! This control panel will give you just that option. PopChar Lite by Günther Blaschek will provide the user with a window that displays all of the characters (hidden and alternative) of the font they are using. That character can then be inserted into a document by selecting it. This will help you to avoid needing to remember key strokes in order to get that same character into your typing.

Prestissimo by Polymorph Software is a freeware Control Panel for controlling many of the features introduced in Mac OS 8.5 including: the Application Palette, Keyboard shortcuts to change applications and the Scroll bar appearance.

Pretty Scroll 2.0 by Johnny C N Lee will animate your scrolling in documents. From the read me: When we 'scroll' a document, by clicking scroll bar or hiting page down, the document is not scrolled to next page. It actually 'jumps' to next page. Sometimes it is hard to find the point where we were watching, especially near the end of the document. With Pretty Scroll, it is easier. Since the scrolling process is animated, we can follow the movement and find the last point easily.

Process Info is a small application that will provide you with information of all the processes you have running at the moment, including those that run in the background. The look and feel is described as similar to the look and feel of Process Viewer (Which runs on Mac OS X Server).

Program Switcher by ClaireWare Software is the premier application management utility. With a simple keystroke, you can switch to, launch, quit, or hide any application. With a similar keystroke, you can switch, close, or hide the windows of an application. As if that is not all, Program Switcher provides a suite of user-programmable hot keys.

Power Windows by Gregory Landweber is a control panel that will let you drag the entire contents of windows instead of just a dotted outline. The control panel lets you choose between Solid Dragging and Translucent Dragging. Power Windows can also make Finder Windows Fade Open and Closed and Menus Fade Closed, as well as offering Translucent Menus. Power Windows is fully compatible with all system versions from System 7 through Mac OS 9.

QuickConvert flips data and resource forks. If you drop a data file on Quick Convert it will be turned into a resource file. If you drop a resource file on Quick Convert it will be turned into a data file. The perfect little tool for editing Extras.rsrc on Mac OS X. Please note that you will require CarbonLib 1.1 to run this sample under OS 9.

QuickPOP by JohnV. Holder, Software. "QuickPop does just two things, but was designed to do them very well. QuickWindow by DragonOne Software is an extension and CMM that will allow a user to manipulate the Finder windows via the Finder's Menu. It will even allow the use of the collapse window feature either singularly or all at once. Version 1.1 adds support for Mac OS 9, including the new multiple users feature.

A Syzygy Cult product RAMGauge is a control panel that places the amount of available Ram into the menu bar. It is fully customizable as to the font, color and placement. The only problem I have had is that the background color is white and that stand out against the Platinum background.

Rearrange Folders by Stefano Ghielmi & Henrik Rintala is a program which lets you optimize the positioning of windows of disks and folders in the Finder. You can specify where the window for a disk or folder should open and Rearrange Folders takes care that any folder inside that folder will open neatly stacked on top of the first folder so that your screen does not get so cluttered. Multiple language versions are available.

Imagine the power of joining forces with other computers cpu's. This is what distributed.net does. It's very simple to participate in the challenges. You only need to download a small client program which contacts the servers and will process part of the current challenge. They only use the computer's idle time, so when you want to use your computer, the client will automatically use less processor time until you stop working on your computer again.

Reaper by Akua "allows you to control the heap allocation for applications that you may not otherwise adjust. Examples are CD-ROM applications, the Finder and Background applications. It also features a RAM Charger like expansion of the heap of applications you choose."

Replace by Jim Walker's Software is a small extension that will hi-lite the word "Replace" in a dialog window instead of the normal default "Cancel" This was updated for use in OS 8.5+.

ResCompare by Michael Hecht will compare two applications, including their data forks and display the differences between the resources. Very useful tool!

ResEdit is tool you'll want to get if you plan on using this site to the fullest. Go here to read more about it. It is also always available for free from Apple.

ResFind 2.5 is a tiny program to search ascii or hexadecimal strings in the resource fork of any file. From the read me: "Written originally as a Desk Accessory (v1.02) in french by Father Vincent from "Traditions Monastiques, France", it has been changed latter to an Application (v2.5)."

Restore Desktop from Softwarium is a CMM that when called upon will remember the exact placement of your icons on the desktop prior to their being rearranged because of a screen resolution change. It will work both automatically and manually after a screen change.
