Gerry's ICQ is another client for internet chatting. Similar to Miralibis and AOL it will allow a user to communicate in real-time with others on the internet who use this software. It is very MAC friendly and if you are already a user of Mirabilis's ICQ client, you can use your account in Gerry's ICQ too. You must first get your ICQ Number from the Mirablis client.

Glidel is a system extension that extends the Finder's drag-and-drop abilities within System 7. You can select any icon currently visible, either on your Desktop or in an open folder, and drag it to any icon in the menu bar. Starting with version 5.0, Glidel handles any application selection (just the Finder with System 7.)

GlueWindow by Emmanuel Keller is a Control Panel that will cause the windows stick to the edges of the screen and the borders of the other windows.

This is a personal favorite. The amount of usability is virtually limitless. If you use Apple's Stickies then you will love the next step that Gramotki takes you towards this needed area. You can drag and drop text/URl's/ folders/images of any kind, and of course copy and paste. In fact when I am doing updates I have one open to drag and drop any and all the info I need to do the updates. Of course ResExcellence has found a way to further improve on Gramotki!

Gravité by Sylvain Demongeot From the read me: "Gravité makes Macintosh Drag & Drop look and feel more like the real thing. When Gravité is installed, dragged objects (Finder icons, image clips…) behave according to laws of mechanics such as gravity, inertia and friction."

Greg's Browser by Greg Landweber is a fast and compact file navigation utility based on the NeXT directory browser, thus giving you a preview of how the Rhapsody Finder may look and behave. Version 2.6.x is now compatible with Mac OS 9 and updates the interface slightly. This version fixes problems with 32-bit icons.

HelpLess is a System Extension and Control Panel that helps people with extended keyboards avoid the annoying delay that occurs when the Help key is hit by accident instead of the delete key. In addition on machines running Mac OS8 HelpLess will allow you to restore the Help menu to the same location as it had on machines running System 7.x.

Help Lock by Lawrence D'Oliveiro "is an INIT that lets you use the caps lock key to turn help balloons on and off. That’s all it does, and that’s all it’ll ever do. I wrote it because I didn’t have any other use for my caps lock key. It doesn’t patch any traps, so it’s less likely to be the cause of conflicts than some other INITs."

Help To Icon by Jérome Foucher will let you "replace the Help menu title, the Print menu title and the FaxMenu title by icons. 9 icons are provided for the Help menu replacement: OS 8 Help bulb, System 7.5 Help bulb, System 7.1 Help bulb, LiteSwitch style icon (LiteSwitch is ©Proteron), 3 HTI bulbs, HiTech bulb, and a real bulb. 3 icons are provided for FaxMenu replacement, and 2 icons for the Print menu."

HexEdit is a hexdump viewer and editor that works similarly to the hex editor provided with Apple's ResEdit. It allows you to edit either the data fork or the resource fork of a file. Warning: Be sure to backup your data before operating this program. It is possible to loose the entire contents of a hard drive (or data on any type of storage device) by using this program!

ICQ is a real time chat program that can be used to communicate between friends and collegues while on the net. One extremely nice feature is that it tells you when one of your friends are on line and lets you contact them at any time. Inquisitor by Ethan Jeremy Tira-Thompson "allows you to easily determine how your hard drive's space is being used. It displays a pie graph of the folders and files on the hard drive, allowing you to compare at a glance their relative sizes. You can add items to the graph by drag-and-dropping them onto the window, or through the "Add..." menu item. You can drag the graph around to see it from different angles, or click on one or more items to get some statistics, such as the amount of space taken up compared to the amount of data stored, the number of files, the average file size, etc." Also available at Info-Mac.

Installer Observer can discover all changes that an installer has made by essentially comparing before and after states of the system. KeyboardLock by Halfhill Software provides a way for you to lock the keyboard. Additionally you can use KeyboardLock to "Turn off the Power, Help, and Caps Lock Keys. You can also use it to add a "typing sound" to every keypress. The keyboard and mouse can now be set to go to sleep after a set period of inactivity."

KeyBoard Patch by the author of SwitchRes will "allow the "Function keys" options of MacOS 9.0's "Keyboard" Control Panel to work on every Mac. This patch is provided "As is". KeyQuencer is completely compatible with 8.6. If you are getting tired of doing repeatitive tasks you should really consider trying KeyQuencer. It is a utility that lets you create shortcuts (called "macros") These Macro's will allow you to perform a series of tasks with a single keystroke. Now here is a real time saving utility. KeySwapper by JohnV. Holder, Software From the page: "KeySwapper will allow you to use any key(s) you like to emulate other keys that your computer may not have (such as the Forward Delete key, the Page Up key, the End key, etc.)! You can also disable the Caps Lock key if you wish (very useful for PowerBooks that seem to always have the Caps Lock key down when you didn1t want it that way!"

LiteSwitch by Proteron is a Mac OS implementation of the Alt-Tab feature found in another operating system. Proteron's popular Program Bar and Start Menu (now owned by PowerOn Software) for the Mac, has LiteSwitch built in. Proteron unbundled this program fro GoMac.

Mac OS Purge is a freeware program that will assist in freeing up memory that becomes trapped between application quitting. Often people will find that after quitting a program it will not indicate that it has freed the memory it required in the About this Computer box. This program will help to free that memory. Just added — Patch below to prevent the "About..." window from opening each time.

Mac OS Purge 1.0.1 Fast Patch by Jeffrey H. Johnson will prevent Mac OS Purge (above) from opening the "About This Computer" window from opening each time the program is used. This makes it good if you want to call this from scripts or at the end of your startup items folder.

MemMapper Provides a graphical interface showing what is occupying your memory. It provides a comprehensive listing of all applications and programs running — including background programs. Read more about this program in Jeremy's review by clicking on the icon to the left.

MenuChoice is an older control panel that will enable hiearchical menus under the Apple Menu. Folder will appear as sub folders enabling you to open applications and folders from the Apple Menu. It also has a feature called "Deeper Menus" which will override Apple's limitations of only being able to go five levels deep into sub-folder.

Menuette by Tiger Technologies is definitely the program to use if you prefer visual cues to words in your menu bar. Menuette performs variety of alterations to your menu bar, such as replacing the words with animated icons or selecting the text and size that appears in the drop down menus. Menu Shade is described as a simple extension that will make the menu bar disappear when it is not in use, freeing up more screen area. Although it was released in 1996 and not updated since several readers have reported success with it in later OS versions. Your milage may vary. The read me states it has not been tested with OS version below 7.5.

Mercutio Patcher will give you the colored menu's that some applications are remiss in having. Instead of the dull black and white in drop down menus you will have universal color in the menu. A list of "patchable applications" is included.

Mouse Move by Chris Cho will "move the mouse to random positions on the screen at predetermined time intervals. The program can be quit by pressing any key or clicking the mouse on the program window created. Certain services such as messaging clients or X Window servers may cause you to idle out after a period of inactivity. Thus, by moving the mouse continuously, you no longer have to worry about being logged out."
