REAL Software News

Announcing REAL SQL Server 2006
REAL Software announced that REAL SQL Server 2006, a multi-user relational database engine for use with REALbasic, is in beta. REAL SQL Server 2006 delivers substantial benefits to REALbasic developers, such as:
  - An easy transition from the single-user desktop engine to a multi-user database server
  - Easy installation, configuration and administration with a straightforward administration application
  - Reliability and performance as expected from an industry-standards- based server database engine
  - Whole-solution support from the desktop to the server, all from a single trusted vendor.
As I gather from the press release, REAL SQL Server 2006 will require REALbasic Pro and will itself be a separate product that will plug into REALbasic. This announcement is great news (as I see it) for the forthcoming product from REAL Software codenamed "Swordfish" which will extend REALbasic's reach into web development. More on that later.

REAL World 2006
REAL World 2006, the third annual 3-day REALbasic User Conference, will begin on February 27, 2006 at the Omni Austin Hotel Downtown in Austin, Texas. What's the big deal about REAL World? How about a keynote presentation by Geoff Perlman, founder and CEO of REAL Software, over 30 sessions covering REALbasic topics at all skill levels, with introductory sessions for beginners and in-depth sessions for advanced users with presentations by skilled REAL Software professionals, including REAL Software technical staff and respected REALbasic industry experts, and you'll be able to spend valuable time meeting and learning from REAL Software Engineers and other REALbasic Users in a fun and friendly atmosphere throughout the conference sessions and social events. Early bird conference passes are available now. For a limited time only, you can purchase a conference pass for $499.95. Find out all the great info about REAL World at the REAL Software website, including quotes from real attendees.

radRSS v2.0 - RSS & ATOM News Feeds in REALbasic
Radical Breeze has updated radRSS (their news feed reading socket for REALbasic) to 2.0. This new version includes the ability to read ATOM feeds in addition to RSS feeds and work with both types using the exact same api. RadRSS is an RSS and ATOM specific socket which does all the heavy lifting of dealing with an RSS/ATOM news feed for you. Simply supply a URL to a known RSS/ATOM feed and RadRSS will supply you with easy to manage information on the feed and all available RSS/ATOM Entries. radRSS requires REALbasic 2005 R3 and is part of the $30/year subscription to the Radical Breeze Developer Pack.

RadGraphics 3.0, RadPicView 1.1
Radical Breeze released updates to their graphics related REALbasic developer components. RadGraphics 3.0 includes new artistic picture effects, progress events and more. RadPicView 1.1 adds scroll-wheel support to the zoomable, scrollable image viewing control. RadGraphics is a set of functions for applying a variety of effects to pictures in REALbasic. Includes RGB levels, Brightness, Diffuse, Emboss, Grayscale, Invert, Pixelate, Sharpen, Soften, Ripple, RankFilter and Solarize. RadPicView is a zoomable, scrollable, draggable, double-buffered control for viewing images. RadGraphics and RadPicView require REALbasic 2005 R3 and is part of the $30/year subscription to the Radical Breeze Developer Pack.

Integer Plugin v2.0
Bob Delaney's Integer Plugin for REALbasic 5 and higher allows you to construct programs which can handle unsigned 64-bit, signed 64-bit, and unsigned 32-bit integers. You can use the arithmetic operators +, -, *, / with these numbers. And they can interact with REALbasic integers, which are signed 32-bit integers. Doubles, Integers, and Strings can be converted to the new types, and vice-versa. The Integer Plugin runs on Mac OS 9, Mac OS X, and Windows applications and is freeware.

Component X Graphics 2005r1
Component X has released Component X Graphics for REALbasic 2005. Component X Graphics is a library of fast, cross-platform consistent graphic routines for stretch, flip, rotate, shear, and trim pictures, routines to adjust contrast, gamma, HSV, and RGB of pictures, routines for compositing, threshold, transitions, and pixelating images, and even a routine to blit high quality crawling ants on images. Although Component X Graphics is no longer an open source project, it is now free to use in any application provided that you note its use in your documentation or the application itself.
