FMOD Ex Audio Class v0.3b
FMOD Ex is a cross platform audio library that supports a wide range of audio formats and playback options, including a physically correct 3D audio engine. The FMOD Ex Audio Classes are free and open source classes for REALbasic 5.5 and higher that hook into FMOD Ex and implement a subset of its functionality via familiar REALbasic style interfaces. Release v0.3b addresses compatibility issues that arose due to recent changes within the FMOD Ex library. The FMOD Ex Audio Classes build for Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux.

Data-On-Demand ListBox v1.2
The Data-On-Demand ListBox is a subclass of the native REALbasic ListBox and, as far as the end-user is concerned, will behave in the same way. The key difference for the programmer is that the Data-On-Demand ListBox does not store any data. Rather, it is a "virtual" ListBox that relies on you, the programmer, to provide data, row-by-row, as requested. As a result, the Data-On-Demand ListBox is much faster at populating thousands of rows and, because you maintain the data, does not require you to coordinate changes from the data in your database to the ListBox. Licenses are available for $50 per developer.

PCFormat Magazine Contains Free 5.2.4 for Windows
PCFormat has a multipage article on REALbasic as well as a free copy of REALbasic for Windows standard edition 5.2.4 on the cover CD. This is the third magazine in our publicity campaign in the UK and the second PC magazine to offer REALbasic articles and inclusion on the cover cd. PCPlus is on sale in selected markets outside of the UK as well. Nova is working to develop the UK market and increase the awareness for REALbasic as a serious development tool for Windows users. If you are outside of Europe, please contact Gwen at REALsoftware (gwen@realsoftware.com) for details regarding this campaign.

REAL Software Seeking an Entry-Level Tester
As REAL Software continues to grow and expand we are looking to hire another tester. This is an entry level position and ideally we'd like to find someone willing to relocate to Austin, TX. Responsibilities will include assisting with the following:

  1. Incoming bug reports and feature requests. This involves email correspondence with users, making sample projects, providing workarounds and updating the feedback database.
  2. Testing new features and bug fixes. This involves working closely with the programmers, confirming fixes, and stress testing new features.
  3. Extending the automated test suite. This involves expanding and improving the existing tool. New modules are added to ensure that old functionality isn't broken as well as test new features and indicate where improvements are needed.

The ideal candidate will already be very familiar with REALbasic and preferably an avid user of the alpha/beta releases. Also important is an enthusiasm for the product and the desire to be part of a team that's intent on making the best development environment ever.

If this sounds like something you'd be interested in please send an email to: tester@realsoftware.com. In this email please explain why you feel you'd be a good fit for this position. If you'd like to include examples of your REALbasic work and sample bug projects that would be helpful.

REALbasic Development

RBDocGen Preview 1
RBDocGen (direct download) is a documentation generator for REALbasic projects. By adding comments to your code in a specialized format, RBDocGen can parse through entire project and generate HTML documentation for all of the classes, methods, and everything else. The HTML output is controlled by a template system using inline markup of RBScript code.

PDF Classes v2.3
The PDF Classes from Fireye Software are a set of classes for generating PDFs from your REALbasic application. These classes are written entirely in REALbasic, and make it easy to create PDFs on any platform. With very little code, you can make a PDF with text, straight lines, bezier curves, rectangles, circles, and images. Version 2.3 fixes a bug with the PDFPictureImage class and adds the capability to specify coordinates for a PDFOutlineNode. You can now specify any (x, y) point on the target page instead of having the node always link to the upper-left corner of the page. Above the freeware version of the classes, the pro version ($100) has font embedding, images in console apps, and a PDF table of contents.

RadRSS v3.1
RadRSS is an RSS and ATOM specific socket which does all the heavy lifting of dealing with an RSS/ATOM news feed for you. Simply supply a URL to a known RSS/ATOM feed and RadRSS will supply you with easy to manage information on the feed and all available RSS/ATOM Entries. Notably new in 3.1 is support for .Mac Photocasts and better support for RSS files generated with Apple's iWeb. RadRSS requires REALbasic 2005 R3 and is part of the $30/year subscription to the Radical Breeze Developer Pack.

MBS Plugin v6.0
Monkeybread Software released version 6.0, yet another release of the instanely large and all-encompassing MBS plug-in for REALbasic which has over 500 classes, 4 controls, and over 11,000 documented functions. New in 6.0 is Improved MachO support, Improved plugins parts: IOWarrior, HASP, QTFileTransfer, Rewritten PortAudio classes, Rewritten PDFLib plugins. It's HUGE and amazingly is backwards compatible to REALbasic 4.5. Also required is 100 MB hard disk space and around 16 MB of RAM in addition to the requirements of REALbasic and the operation system itself. Licenses are on per/year subscription model similar to REALbasic, and go for €40 and €80 for private and commercial uses respectively.

PreemptiveThreadTD v1.0
The PreemptiveThreadTD toolkit includes 4 classes for implementing and managing preemptive threads: PreemptiveThreadTD, CriticalSectionTD, SemaphoreTD, and ThreadCompletionTimerTD. Using these classes REALbasic users can create threads that execute code which would block a standard Thread and lead to sluggish behavior or a frozen user interface. Because PreemptiveThreadTD threads are managed by the host OS they never prevent other application threads from receiving time, and will even be scheduled across multiple processors according to the rules of the host OS. The registered version (Single User: $20) allows the creation of compiled applications for Mac OS X and Windows and supports the Carbon PEF, Carbon Mach-O PPC, and Windows x86 targets.

sjgEZTwain Classes for TWAIN Devices
sjgEZTwain is a free class designed to make it easy to capture images from your scanner, camera or other TWAIN device on Microsoft Windows. It allows REALbasic to use the Public Domain EZTwain dll (EZTW32.dll) by Dosadi available from http://www.dosadi.com/eztwain1.htm (included in the zip). The full version is available for RB2006. It captures images to 3 destinations - a file, the clipboard or directly to a Picture. There is a cutdown version for RB2005 which captures to a Picture via a file or the clipboard.
