How To Add A Print Button To Safari

Before we dive into BK's tutorial we'd be remiss to not include an alternate method for adding a print feature to Safari. This is a simple javascript that you can drag and drop to your bookmarks bar. Just hightlight the blue text below and when you drop it Safari will ask you to name it - say "Print" or whatever else suits your fancy. The next time you need to print in Safari just click the bookmark! I've only had the opportunity to test this in Panther with Safari 1.2.1 so your results could vary.

Time for me to turn this back over to BK :) Please be sure you read the entire tutorial before digging in...

1. You'll want to start by making sure you have the developer tools installed. No way are you doing this with TextEdit.
2. Next, backup Safari!!! Don't say we didn't warn you!
3. In the Finder, use the Go menu > Go To folder command...
   
   
   
   
4. Open the files "Bug_Report.tif" and "Bug_Report_Pressed.tif" in your favorite image editor and change them to be print buttons. Yes, you guessed it, we're going to change the bug report button to a print button.
5. Now, open the directory for your language project ("English.lproj" for english speakers).
6. Open the file "Browser.nib" in InterfaceBuilder.
7. Next, you want to click on the right-most broken image icon (circled in red), and bring up the Info panel (shift-apple-i), set it to the Connections pane (using the pulldown menu) as shown below.

8. Click the "Disconnect" button as shown in the snapshot, make sure you've selected the right info.
9. Now, hold down the "Control" key and drag from the little broken icon we're dealing with to the icon in the "Instances" tab of the "Browser.nib" file window that's called "First Responder".

10. In the info window, go ahead and select the target "printDocument:" and click "Connect" (I've already clicked it in the snapshot, therefore the button reads "Disconnect").
    
    
    
    
11. Save the file, quit InterfaceBuilder, and launch Safari. Make sure it is set to show the bug button, and enjoy your handywork!
