Add ls Colors To Your Panther Terminal
03-25-2004

Zvezdan Petkovic saw our terminal mod, Setting List Colors PART II, and tells us there is no need to install GNU fileutils to get colored ls output. It's enough to set up the following command in your .login profile using pico.

Command: pico ~/.login
Then enter:
setenv CLICOLOR 1

The default colors can be changed with setting, for example, this on the next line:
setenv LSCOLORS ExFxCxDxBxegedabagacad

If the user uses bash shell the .profile would need:
CLICOLOR=1
LSCOLORS=ExFxCxDxBxegedabagacad
export CLICOLOR LSCOLORS

That's all. No installation of replacement fileutils is needed. The default FreeBSD ls that comes with Darwin has this feature.
