Change the Default Safari Bookmark Icon My goodness, isn't the Globe icon that's used in Safari a little bright? I like to use Max Rudberg's Brushed Metal Theme on my computer, so those little spheres of bright blue make me dizzy. After a fair amount of digging, I found the location of the image file (see below). Surprise! It's not an icon file but a TIFF image.
Show the package contents on a copy of Safari. Under WebKit.framework work your way to the Resources folder. The default bookmark image is titled url_icon.tiff. You can replace this with an image of your own, but if you use Photoshop to create it, you will need to tell that graphic app not to "maximize compatibility for Photoshop files". It's a preference of File handling which adds a lot of extra crap (can I say that?) to the image file size.
