Share the desktop Files between MacOS X and Classic. by Michael Coyle Steve sent this tip on how to have a single desktop between MacOS X and Classic MacOS. I was very leery of doing this, but after running it for a week, I have had no problems. It involves deleting the MacOS X Desktop folder inside your Home directory so be sure there is NOTHING ON YOUR DESKTOP. You have been warned. After deleting the X Desktop, you create a symbolic link (Unix for an alias) from the Classic MacOS Desktop Folder to you Home directory. After creating the link, list the Home folder contents to see the link. You will need to relaunch the Finder to compete the switch.
One caveat, you can create this link for each user on the machine, and each user owns the Classic Desktop when he logs in. This is not only a minor security risk, but by sharing this desktop, there is a risk something will accidentally be deleted by one user that is needed by another. Still, on a single user machine, it's very convenient to have one set of desktop files for both versions of the MacOS.
