Alert Sounds in MacOS X by Michael Coyle MacOS X will use any AIFF file as an alert sound. Place favorites in your /Library/Sounds folder and make sure the file name ends in .aiff.
To convert most files to aiff, I like to use SoundApp. Under Classic MacOS, the old System 7 style snd files are stored in the System Suitcase (in the system Folder). Now you can take your favorites and use in MacOS X.
