Applescript to Delete the mach, mach.sym files If you boot from MacOS X to MacOS 9, you'll notice under two extra files on your hard disk: mach.sym and mach. Initially, I used ResEdit to make those files invisible under native MacOS 9, but discovered that MacOS X keeps creating new ones! Since MacOS X seemed to have no trouble recreating the files, I took the small chance of deleting them, and of course, MacOS X recreated them! Finally, I used the Script Editor to record this simple script and placed it in my Startup Items folder. There are no more mach files and X doesn't seem to care in the least.
