Replace the BezelUI Images in Mac OS X 10.4.3 and Previous Systems
by Scott Chitwood, 3rd January 2006

We've covered this topic a short time after Tiger was updated to version 10.4.3 and it's also been a recurring question in the forum. In truth, the mod is quite simple to do. The only stumbling block is the image location was changed in Mac OS X 10.4.3, and to confuse matters, the directory used by previous Systems remained intact. Let's dig in.

Image locations for the BezelUI are...

Systems prior to Mac OS X 10.4.3
/System/Library/CoreServices/BezelUI/Images

For Mac OS X 10.4.3
/System/Library/LoginPlugins/BezelServices.loginPlugin/Contents/Resources/BezelUI/Images

The first thing to do is to make a back up of the Images folder. My personal method of preference is to archive the Image folder in place within the Resources directory.

Now you need a set of replacement images. We have a nice selection to choose from in our System Level Icons section. Or maybe you'd like to create a highly personalized set, just be sure to save them as transparent PNGs. Either way, once you've decided on a set, copy the files to the Images folder.

Restart your Mac and voilà! Your snazzy new images will be there to greet you.
