Satisfy your snapshot cravings with Tuesday’s round:

  • This snapshot from an anonymous contributor showcases an old IIsi. The memory frugal iCab browser is running in the background along with the equally conservative Musashi email client: all in 9 MB of RAM. Those were the days…

  • Arena Design’s “iMac Ruby” desktop picture and Butt O’Sigh’s Goinsane K-Scheme debut in this gorgeous contribution from Pablo Mingo. Audion, equipped with the Emerald face, is tickling the eardrums in the lower right.

  • This OS X Beta snapshot from Kevin Redington sports RAILhead Design’s “Fire” desktop picture. Windows 98, emulated with RealPC, is displaying schematics in ElectronicWorkbench. Audion is serving up music in the upper left-hand corner.

  • Jeffrey Ryan contributes this OS X Beta screenshot filled to the hilt with translucency. Two semitransparent terminal windows are overlapping Internet Explorer. SoundJam, tweaked with the AquaX skin is dishing out tunes in the upper left-hand corner.

Applescripts 1-16-01 Applescript/Scripting by Michael

Joe Szedula updated John Murden's BBEdit script for fixing up HTML documents and converting characters like & to the html equivalent & (Download new script)

I took your script and make the "tell" portion into a handler. I then set it up so the user could either double click on the script to launch it and it will prompt for a file just like yours did or drop folders or files on the script and it will clean each text file. If the folders have folders those will be cleaned as well.

This script will compromise security on your computer, but it will also make your life easier. You decide. If you are using Apple's Keychain manager mainly to remember passwords on a system where security is not a concern, then this simple script by Jonathan Woolson may be for you. Placed in the Startup Folder, it unlocks the Keychain at boot.

tell application "Keychain Scripting"
unlock keychain "your keychain" with password "your password"
quit
end tell

Replace "your keychain" and "your password" with the same info from Keychain Access control panel. Save as Classic Applet into your Startup Items folder. The Keychain will no longer pester you for a password, ever. CAUTION: This will, of course, give your password away to anyone to anyone who gets a hold of the script. Placing the script in your Startup Items folder will leave your Mac physically compromised to anyone who can get access to it.

Today's News by Cletus

The ever popular Drop Drawers has been updated for both Mac OS X and Classic. "Version 1.5.1 adds some minor usability improvements, including speeding up drawers containing networked files. Since these are not related to stability, the upgrade from version 1.5 is entirely optional."

Wapp pro v.2.9 has also undergone a big revision in that it will now support carbonized apps.

Desktopper has posted some very interesting theme variations for Mac OS X and a couple of new schemes for Kaleidoscope.

Michael Rabe, from Doghouse Online will be realeasing another wonderful theme from the GlassWorks collection. This one will go nicely with the KeyLime iBook users out there. The theme is called GlassWorks Lime. Grab it now.

Derek Gordon has but together a comprehensive package for adding a Menubar Background to any kaleidoscope Scheme. The package includes the four examples on the right, plus templates for Photoshop and ResEdit. Derek's impetus for creating this was the desire to add the MacOS X blue apple to his favorite schemes.

User Contributed Splash Screens:

  • The first in a series of three, Mike Finch calls this Interarchy Interface "Plastic".

  • Featuring the Graphite iMac, Keith Mason sends two more splash screens for AIM and Dreamweaver.

  • Frank sent another Nature MOSS called "Forest".

  • Something about this cool looking Netscape splash from Jonas Kohler reminds me of Captain Nemo!

  • Adrian Jean sent in this OS X Beta snapshot featuring the custom “InvalidSuperBlock 1” desktop picture. The custom OSDrivez icons are displayed in the Finder window.

  • Faithful contributor Robert Marking submitted this screenshot sporting the “Swordfight” desktop picture from Rune’s official website. Giant icons from Xicons line the right edge.

Macworld...

Icons - Desktops: For today's update we have 3 more outstanding Icon Sets, all Pixelpalooza contest entries, and 6 more excellent Desktops.

  • "Droppin' the kids off" by Josh Bishop is one of the funniest icon sets I've seen in a long time. This "poopy" set of icons will no doubt bring a smile to all those out there with babies in diapers.

  • "BlackBird Icons", by Rob Jones is a fine set of 48 system replacement icons. Rob says that this is his first attempt at icon making, but you may find that hard to believe.

  • On a visit to North Carolina and the home of Mark Vogler of the MacOsZone, one of our first stops was to a Krispy Kreme Donut shop. Witness this delicious Southern institution immortalized in Mark's Krispy Kreme Donuts Icons.

  • An avid, but unamed fan of Britney Spears submits this set of Britney Backdrops in multiple resolutions. Also included is a long links list to other Britney related sites.

  • 'Flax Creations (yours truly) is almost obsessed with experimenting with form, color and random Photoshop filter combinations. Boot emerged out of one of those sessions, and comes in 1024x and 800x resolutions.

  • Garrett Walbridge premieres his first desktop creation titled "RGB" on ResExcellence. This beauty comes in 1024x resolution. Don't forget to drop him a note, and encourage him to make more desktops.

  • This stylish John Lennon Desktop showed up in our FTP box, alas with no author name. None the less, it's a nice one, and comes in 1365x resolution.

  • Simple but elegant, "Midnight Garden" by Gigi, comes in 1024x resolution.

  • Another orphan desktop, PsychoDesktop comes in several resolutions, and includes a long set of links. (can someone fill me in on this one?).

News From Around the Web:

Mandolux informs us that there they have updated with 16 new desktops. The theme of these desktops is the new software title from Apple - iTunes. All new desktops are now available in the resolution of 1152x768 (for the new PowerBook G4) besides the 1600x1200, 1280x1024, 1152x870,and 1024x768.

Rampant Mac has been updated again with one new MOSS and six 3D desktops.

Today's News by CletusCan someone pick me up at terminal A & drop me off at terminal F?

I will be leaving tomorrow morning for San Francisco. We all plan on doing an update on Friday as normal. I am looking forward to the trip and to possibly meeting some of you if you plan on being around Saturday.

Did anyone happen to catch this notice? Kaleidoscope 2.3.1 will be released “soon.” If you did not see the announcement, then you will want to pop over to this page to read the version history.

REAL Software, Inc. announced the release REALbasic 3 in beta. This is the latest version of its award-winning software. REALbasic runs on Mac OS X as well as earlier versions of Macintosh System software (Classic). From the read me:

New features include an all new animation engine, revamped database features, enhancements to the Code editor and debugger, Crash recovery, searchable online reference, build (compiling process) AppleScriptable, vastly improved Windows support, and more.

St. Clair Software has posted beta version 2.2 of ScreenCatcher. ScreenCatcher will allow full web page screen captures, even if the content is not completely visible in the browsers window. Screen Catcher is now compatible with Mac OS 9.1. Changes in this beta release include:

  • Quicktime 4 import/export components supply more file formats, including PICT, GIF, JPEG, TIFF, BMP, PNG, Photoshop, SGI, MacPaint, TGA, and Quicktime.

  • Catch-All works correctly with Netscape 6, CodeWarrior 6, and Carbon applications.

  • "Instant Registration" is now available directly within Screen Catcher using eSellerate.net.

DragonOne has been busy updating their software to perform under Mac OS 9.1. The results are updates to two of their most popular pieces:

9Tuner, which will allow you to modify certain resources in your system files to change the appearances and functionality of your Mac OS 9, is now at version 5.1. The Software Archive has been updated.

FinderMenuTuner has also undergone some changes. This control panel enables you to add hot keys with combinations of modifier keys, for example; command, option, control, and shift, to most Finder menu items.

Element k Journals have posted an article you may wish to read. It covers iMovie 2 and is entitled: “Become An Indie Film Director With iMovie 2.”

Themes and Schemes:

I mentioned this yesterday in an update to my news, but in case you missed that, RAILhead Design has finished the AquaX III Kaleidoscope Scheme. You may still be able to grab it before Apple slams the door. If you missed your opportunity, you can send an e-mail and have it sent to you according to the web page. Check at the site for further information on the schemes availability.

GlassWorks Indigo v4.0 is now available at DogHouse Online. Michael Rabe continues his theme-building prowess with this release.

Hacking MacOS 9.1 by Michael Coyle

If the rumor mill is to be believed, this is the last iteration of the Classic MacOS before we move to the new BSD MacOS X. This report covers MacOS 9.1 primarily from a ResEdit hacking perspective, though I include additional interesting observations. (Continued...)

Tools of the Trade

As Cletus and Dan have stated in their news, we are headed to Macworld. Jeremy volunteered to stay behind incase someone is needed to send us bond money. We have some exciting things planned, so keep an eye on the site through the weekend.

Saturday night (1/13), ResExcellence is hosting a party at Foley's Irish Pub by the convention center. If you're interested in stopping in for a brew, read the details.

exitmusic has updated with two new Throbbers for Internet Explorer 5!

Rene from Happicon sends this little tip:

If you switch between Classic and MacOS X's Internet Explorer, an annoying side effect is that you do not have the same Favorites. The bookmarks you make in X aren't in OS 9 Explorer. The solution: Make an alias of your favorites.html and history.html from your Explorer folder (in MacOS 9->Preferences->System Folder) and put them in the same folder in Preferences under MacOS X (/user/library/preferences). Now, no matter where you are, your favorites go with you.

Apple Computer has posted an interesting tutorial to make custom frames around your Movies. These Media Skins replace the standard Quicktime controls and can take on virtually any shape.

Applescripts 1-9-01 Applescript/Scripting by Michael

For users of BBEdit, John Murden wrote this handy text cleaner Applescript that uses BBEdit to make text documents more web-friendly by changing all sorts of text characters to their web-equivalent. This is a real problem when getting documents in Word or Quark. If you have an idea to improve upon the code, drop John a line.

Update: Joe Szedula adds this script could use one more a "replace" line. The following line should be added to the list of replaces:

replace Every Occurrence searching for "…" using "..." with start at top without selection only

Today's News by Cletus

Updated 6 Am Tuesday!

One is never sure how long you may have, so I thought I would mention this now and then again tomorrow, if it is still there! What already Cletus! Here!

HexEdit 1.6.5 is now available. A carbon version is also included in this release. HexEdit was originally released in July of 1993 and is described in the read me as a hexdump viewer and editor that works similarly to the hex editor provided with Apple's ResEdit. It allows you to edit either the data fork or the resource fork of a file. Version 1.6.5 provides many fixes and enhancements.

GraphicConverter is upgraded to version 4.0.2! This very powerful graphic manipulation tool is a favorite in the Mac community. As a shareware application you couldn't ask for a more feature rich program. An update to GraphicConverter never seems to be small, and this one is no different. Only a partial list of changes follows. Oh, and be sure to stop over to the Icon Archive and grab some replacement icons for GC while you are at it!

  • Red-eye filter added

  • WBIN MacWavelet 2d import and export added

  • TealPaint export added

  • Slideshow supports now tenth of seconds for the timing

  • Delete in the browser will now move the image to the trash

  • Option to sort slideshow per folder or for all files added

  • Option to open last browser after program start added

  • Other bug fixes and changes

AIMM, which I mentioned last week, has been updated to version 1.1. This is a stripped down version of AIM that one can use for chatting and Instant Messaging. There are no bells and whistles, which make it great for just talking with your friends online.

Themes and Schemes:

Scheme Factory 1.0pr2 has been posted. What is Scheme Factory? “Scheme Factory is the official scheme editor for the Kaleidoscope 2.0 scheme format. Whether you're a novice schemer or a seasoned professional, Scheme Factory offers you the tools you need to make Kaleidoscope 2 schemes quickly and easily.” A few of the changes in this version are outlined below from the read me:

  • Completely rewritten from the ground up fixing all old bugs (no more [known] crashes or instability).

  • Scheme Factory now runs on 68K computers with a 68020 processor or better.

  • Added the ability to paste color icons and patterns from the clipboard.

  • Added the ability to modify a scheme's info and version info.

  • Added the new MacOS 9 notification window background color to the list of editable parts (Kaleidoscope 2.2.3 or later).

  • Added sliders for adjusting the translucency of menus (Kaleidoscope 2.3 or later).

  • Rearranged the default window positions for the various windows.

The Kaleidoscope Scheme Archive has updated with several really well done schemes. There are a total of 17 new and 7 updates to choose from. The ones that I like this time around are: Andrew's Grey Glass and Andrew's Scotland by Andrew MacTao and Masswerk 7 Le by Norbert Landsteiner. Several favorites have also been updated including: Silencio con Konicons by Kei Kinoshita and Miracle by Toren Valimir. Drop by and pick them up!

The Polling Place

Most of you didn't take the bait with last week's tongue-in-cheek poll. For the most part we all agree that this slowdown is just a bump in the road for Apple, but I still think Steve should give the plane back!

Did everyone get what they asked for from Santa? Raise your hand is you unwrapped a digital camera.

This week's Polling Place asks, "How do you take most of your photos?"

Tools of the Trade

Apple has hit a bulls eye with their latest iTool feature. They quietly added a few dozen MacOS X applications and utilities to your iDisk. These applications are not exclusive to Apple, you may already have most of them, but still it's a nice touch. This could become another avenue to receive updates. The files are in a new disk image format, so be sure to download the provide Disk Copy 6.3.3.

It's too bad that Appletalk over IP is so slow compared to standard ftp. Working with an iDisk is a lesson in patience.

X-Tips

After last week's tip on Restarting in MacOS X, I was barraged with emails reminding me the holding the Option key turns Shutdown to Restart in the Special Menu.

Jared Pinkham was the first to tell me that holding Option also makes this change in the Shutdown dialog box. I still like last week's method the best since it can all be done without a mouse and with one hand.

(Last week's tip)

John G. says even though there is no Restart button in the dialog that comes up when you press the Power button in Mac OS X or in the Special menu, you can still restart the computer by pressing the Power button and when that dialog comes up, just type an "r" just like in MacOS 9 and the computer will restart.

Audion, outfitted with a modified Freece X face, is tickling the eardrums in the lower left. Icons from icons.cx and Icon Factory along with a few of the custom variety inhabit the desktop.

  • This contribution from Bettina Rehmann touts a slick iMac desktop picture. Impressive.

  • Samier Truong sent this snapshot featuring a custom desktop picture and the Desaturation 1207 K-Scheme. Interesting.

Today's News by CletusCheck out the really cool theme preview at DogHouse

Jérome Foucher has updated A-Dock to version 2.2.2 fixing a memory leak that appeared when a locked volume was mounted. When this happened you could lose your Favorites, and the inability to quit A-Dock automatically at shutdown.

Patrick Stadelmann has posted version 1.1 of RAM Disk Iconer. RAM Disk Iconer's origins date back to 1995, however it still continues to receive support. A rare thing today indeed for freeware software. I have updated the Software Archive. Here is a description of what RAM Disk Iconer does:

"RAM Disk Iconer is a control panel/system extension that allows you to customize the name and the icon of your RAM Disk. The control panel allows you to choose the name and to activate or deactivate any of the options. The system extension code gets executed at startup. If these options are checked, it will rename the RAM Disk and/or create the custom icon file."

Kinetic Creations Inc. has updated Export Icon. The Export Icon Plug-in is an Adobe Photoshop® plug-in which adds the ability to export a Photoshop image as a MacOS custom icon. "The plug-in can create full-color (32-bit) "Large" (32x32 pixel) for use with MacOS 8.5 and higher, and "Huge" (48x48 pixel) and "Thumbnail" (128x128 pixel) icons for use with MacOS X." The Software Archive has been updated.

AOL has released a new beta of Instant Messenger. Primary changes in this version include the ability to have your “Buddy List” stored on a “secure and password-protected data system.” Thus, you can access your list despite the computer you are using. Additional information on this feature is available here. Once you download this version, consider some of the edits you can perform on AIM that we offer.

If the new AOL version does not suit you, you may want to look at AIMM v1.0 which has just been released. Jeffrey Rosen, the author, has developed this bare bone version of AIM. It offers you fast speed with no ads, tickers or fancy do-dads. If you only wish to instant message or chat on AIM then this may just be your answer.

Themes and Schemes:

IrieMac has posted their iWindow theme. The theme combines the colors of Aqua and Windows into a unique theme. I have been waiting for this release since it was first announced and can report that after having used iWindows the last couple days, it has caused no problems on my machine. I like it!

Michael Rabe has notified me that he is releasing a really cool theme preview you will want to check out. He is also releasing Theme Checker today along with the GlassWorks Grape theme. Theme Checker is a shareware program that lets you check the different parts of your themes or schemes. You can then make previews of the theme or scheme easily.

Akio has been busy at work and the result has been several of his K-Schemes being reworked to take advantage of the new Kaleidoscope features. The BIG Schemes, Red, Indigo and Graphite now sports drop shadows and transparent menus! The Sharp Indigo Scheme received some minor bug fixes as well.

Desktopper has posted a new scheme and updated some of their other well-known ones. Grassik is a new, non-colored version of their Aqua scheme. It simulates the Graphite appearance option in Mac OS X. Klassik, Sigh and Despair have all been updated. All schemes are courtesy Webmaster Butt_O'sigh.

Macinstruct has posted another interactive tutorial for you to download! This one covers MacPerl, a version that runs under Classic MacOS. The article notes ""With Mac OS X, Apple will become the single largest distributor of Perl. This is a good opportunity to learn this computer language which plays a vital role on the Internet."

With a little effort, you can now run Aqua and X applications side by side in MacOS X. This has the potential to greatly increase the number of applications readily available for MacOS X. For example, my favorite "must have" Linux application is a 2D CAD program called Q-CAD. The possibility of downloading the source for Q-CAD and compiling it to run under Aqua/X makes me tingle all over.

On a slightly related topic, Apple broadened the Open Source Darwin license, bringing it more inline with GPL. Does this mean that future versions of MacOS X could ship with XFree preinstalled, or at least the patches to make it possible already rolled into the Darwin core? Comments...

Slashdot has posted an interview with Jason Haas from LinuxPPC.

X-Tips

John G. says even though there is no Restart button in the dialog that comes up when you press the Power button in Mac OS X or in the Special menu, you can still restart the computer by pressing the Power button and when that dialog comes up, just type an "r" just like in MacOS 9 and the computer will restart.

User Contributed Splash Screens:

  • If you use Internet Explorer, this new Interarchy Interface by James Down will look great alongside your browser.

  • While still keeping the color scheme of the original, this Netscape 6 splash screen by Marco Dinkel is a big improvement.

  • Trevor sent a replacement pict for the Iomega control strip module.

  • Is this the beginning of the end for Jessica Alba submissions? Here's the first of what I suspect will be many Lara Croft creations featuring Angelina Jolie. It's an Explorer splash by Andrew Todd.

  • Nicolas Cardot sent another of his great looking MOSS submissions.

  • And Ryan Marshall created a nice looking Photoshop replacement splash.

Less than a week to the open of Macworld 2001 in SanFrancisco. Can you feel it in the air? I can't help but wonder what exciting new developments Apple has in store for us this year.

Icons - Desktops: For today's update we have 3 more really fine Icon Sets, all Pixelpalooza contest entries, and 5 new desktops.

  • "32bit Buttons" is Sara Romini's first attempt at icon making, and wants to know what you think about them. Download this stylish set of 9 icons, and drop Sara a line about them. ResEdit is suggested here, but not required.

  • Vitek Neruda decided that there was an absence of art icons being created by Mac users and patrons in the Czech community, hence the birth of Czech Family Icons. This monumental set contains 165 icons which represent a majority of the Czech family coat of arms used throughout the centuries.

  • Fred Stidston, a 14 year old budding Mac Graphic Artist lets us show off his Stidcons 2 Icon set. These 55 system replacement icons were hand drawn in Illustrator first, and then pasted via Photoshop into IconMachine. Great work Fred!

  • 'Three Guys is another great desktop sent in by Daniel Fernandez. This hot backdrop comes in 1152x870 resolution.

  • Never more will you turn your back on "Lenore". This spooky desktop by Nasty Nene comes in 1024x 768 resolution, and is based on the Lenore character found at www.spookyland.com .

  • Jonathan Gurule sends us this provocative Mac desktop featuring Kate Hudson. Comes in 800x600 resolution only.

  • Jason Johnson is a true fan of the new Mac operating system, Mac X. Download this desktop in 1024x768 resolution.

  • "RATM" by Scott Bell is a simple 'Rage Against the Machine' desktop for all
who are fans. Comes in 1024x768 resolution.

News From Around the Web:

Akio lets us know that he has just posted two new Desktops on his Website. One for the upcoming game Oni, and the other for the totally cool game Unreal (tournament of course).

There's a newly released icon set from the Little Dark Room. It's a small set called "Stainworld", based on Tim Burton's Animation. The site has also been redesigned.

Mandolux is on a mission, and has 77 new desktops available for download.

UPDATE* Several people have written in about this site indicating that all the icon downloads are in Window's format. Anyone out there know how to make a simple conversion to Mac Icon format? Let me know! You might want take a stroll down Icon Street sometime soon. This French and English icon site maintained by Pierre Cavanna has some really fine sets for download.

For all you graphics collectors, visit the NOAA Photo Library site. This Government operated public archive contains over 16,000 free images, and is an excellent source of cool nature photos and source materials.

Congratulations to Greg Salamone who was the lucky winner of the Interarchy contest. Greg's name was drawn randomly from nearly 230 entries. Thanks go out to Andrew Tomazos who supplied the free registration and to all ResExcellence readers who entered. Stay tuned to this page for more "freebies" in the coming year.

Greg Landweber has updated Power Windows to version 2.4.4, fixing a conflict with the WYSIWYG font menu in Style (a shareware text editor). There are also various minor internal changes.

In addition, Greg also wants it known that his "Holiday Bundle" offer has been extended through the end of the MacWorld Expo SF (January 12, 2001). The bundle includes Power Windows, SmoothType and Greg's Browser for only $20.

Forest has been updated for both Mac OS X and for Classic. Forest will now properly play Random Sounds when selected in the Preferences or in the "Worlds" menu. A few internal changes were also performed on this relaxation software.

There have been two new additions to the Software Archive at the requests of readers.

Throbber Tool by Derek Scott will allow you to quickly and easily change the throbbers in the window of your browser. Mozilla/NS 6, Internet Explorer and iCab are all supported. If you drag and drop a throbber file on Throbber Tool it will allow you to change throbbers. Several Throbbers are available on Derek's homepage and of course on our Throbber page.

SwitchRes by Stéphane Madrau is a "little utility that will allow you to switch the resolution of all your monitors. You can access to all the resolutions of all your displays in a simple, customizable menu. SwitchRes incorporates features from the Monitor Resolution, Monitor BitDepth, and Video Mirroring Control Strip Modules bundled with your system."

Stefano Ghielmi and Matthew Hershberger have updated SpeedApp to version 2.0.2. The "Get Info" and "Show Original" menu items are now working again. This code was accidentally deleted in version 2.0.1. The price information in the registration windows has also been corrected.

Are you running an older Mac? ClassicMacAddict is here to help. It's a great source for old mac games, applications, classic systems, system profiles and help.

Themes and Schemes:

Look for GlassWorks Granite v4.0 at DogHouse Online today. I have been waiting for this theme. This theme could very well become one of my favorites.

Polling Place

At about 60¢ per blank CD, most readers agree that CD Burners are a great way to back up files on your hard disk.

After that, many of you are copying either audio CD's or MP3 collections. I made duplicates of my favorite summer CD's that I can then keep on the ski boat. If they get scratched or otherwise ruined, I still have the original. (As I look out my window at 30 inches of snow, I find great comfort in imagining my ski boat...).

Fortunately, only a 13% of you are nefariously copying software. I can only hope you're bootlegging Microsoft Windows. BTW, there is an interesting thread in the Forum discussing the merits of paying for shareware.

The sky is falling. Have you heard Apple is about to go out of business (again)? Have you read that Steve Jobs is the Devil (or was it Angel)? As the entire industry takes a downturn, Apple is once again slated for liquidation. How do you feel this week before Macworld? The Polling Place asks, "Is Apple in Trouble?".

X-Tips

Axel Wefers adds another terminal command to affect the appearance of the MacOS X Desktop.

To disable outlines around icon names on the desktop, enter at the terminal:

defaults write NSGlobalDomain Desktop.HasDarkBackground 0

To enable outlines around icon names at the desktop, enter at the terminal:

defaults write NSGlobalDomain Desktop.HasDarkBackground 1

Booth commands require the desktop to be restarted. Either log out and back in, of Force Quit the Desktop.

Converting gif to png under LinuxPPC Updated:

After discussing the conversion of icons from Gifs to PNG, Hide Itoh let me know that he released a Mac version of gif2png! Now you can do the conversions under MacOS.

Hide also says future icon sets for Linux will be released in the png format which is easily handled by most window managers.

User Contributed Splash Screens:

  • Robert Marking sent two pairs of matching Boot Panels and Login Panels for MacOS X. They feature the Sage and Ruby iMacs.

  • So many people missed the original Interachy Wand that Andrew Tomazos from Interarchy updated and released it for Interarchy 4.0!

My Snapshot Picks for the month of November are finally out. Stop on by and take a look.
Get your Monday fix for snapshots right here:

  • It looks like regular contributor Jade Barton had the blues when taking this snapshot! Both the Apple Collection desktop picture and the Nova Theme adequately exercise your monitor’s blue electron gun. A whole smattering of icons from Icon Factory, icons.cx, Xicons, and Perfect Yosemite propagate the desktop. Now where’s that harmonica…

  • This “Dilbert” desktop picture from MacDesktops and the Paper Theme debut in this snapshot from Olivier Meulenyzer. Dogberto, a Dilbert-style calculator, is running in the lower left, and MPlay, retro-fitted with the IG Blue skin, is providing the background music at left center. Jane Dominguez’s Dilbert icons also roam the desktop.

  • While initially unwilling to part with his beloved Classic Mac interface when OS X first came out, Edward O’Rourke became so accustomed to the new Aqua interface that he transformed his OS 9 environment to match his new-found methods of doing things. Ben Mackin’s Liquid Theme, a desktop picture with a built-in menubar shadow, Greg’s Browser, A-Dock, and Power Windows contributed to OS 9’s “Aquafication.”

  • Richard Rice is back with another submission, this time touting the OS 9’s “Quantum Foam” desktop picture and Ben Mackin’s Liquid Theme. SoundJam, equipped with the EmulateX skin, is tickling the eardrums in the lower left-hand corner.
