I drive my wife nuts with my eclecticism in what I collect. Doesn't everyone have an odd taste or two. For instance, I have always had a fascination for fountian pens, watches and penguins. I have several Mont Blanc pens and I bought my first Rolex in November, and people are constantly getting me penguin items. I also like the odd clay pipe as well. This is kind of ironic as I know that Mike also collects clay pipes.

OK so I am weird! Although I abhore shopping I do not mind looking through antique shops. Since it is kind of a slow period over the holidays, let's have some fun and start a forum post where people can tell all about some of the odd things they like to collect!

I collect dust bunnies. Their under my bed, behind the bookcase, on top of the fridge.

I'm thinking of getting a government grant to study their mating habits.

I'll probably need a new 2.5 G5, 30" display (rumor?) and some high-end digital movie/photo equipment.

Thanks Uncle Sammy!

David Eddiings, Maggie Furey, Katherine Kerr, almost every Disc World novel by Terry Pratchett and even the Myst books by Rand and Robbin Miller that went with the games (most of which I also have, except for the new one, Uru, because it's not out for Mac yet!!)
The real world gets me down.

I collect VW Beetle things of all kinds. I have storage boxes full of make-up. (I used to want to be a make-up artist until I decided I liked my Mac better than people.) I collect nail polish (over 400 bottles at last count) and clothes too. We have a 3 bedroom house and one room is full of boxes (make-up, nail polish, paper & pens among other memory junk) the second is full of my clothes (we had to turn it into a closet, there was no other way, we have zero actual closet space.) And the third is the real bedroom. I collect lime green too. You'd be surprised how many things come in lime green (even my hair sometimes!) I love paper. Maybe it has something to with it having once been a living tree, but I love paper of all kinds, especially hand-made with little flowers in it. I even have paper made out of old money that's the most wonderful shade of green. Oh yeah, I collect icons too, but I only have about a gig of those. I also collect pictures of beautiful naked women. Not like Playboy though, I like the more artsy stuff, especially with piercings and tattoos. All of the things I collect can be put into one catagory, albeit an unusual thing to collect, but I collect color. I love bright loud colors and soft serene colors. I have a pink and purple couch and a lime green fur covered overstuffed chair with orange and yellow throw pillows. It looks like a rainbow barfed in my house. LOL ;-)

I have collected and still do, a photo taken with my camera of every different form that nature takes.

My collection obssesion for the last 15 years has been collecting and studying, sometimes shaping and polishing, pieces of Australian Opal.

I collect antique boxes... They must be solid wood and have finely crafted joints. I too collect pens....... Sensa pens, that's all. My largest (and longest) ongoing collections would be my Comic books and Playboy Magazine. I have EVERY publication (to my Knowledge) of Daredevil and Elektra that either one has ever appeared in. Other comic books I collect are... Tomb Raider, Aphrodite, Danger Girls and Gen 13. (My wife cringes every time I go to a comic book convention) My Playboy collection dates back to 1978....every issue (centerfolds intact) Oh and Hot Wheels cars..... I have 679.

I am 32 Years old and have been collecting the latter for better than 20 yrs. Sometimes I'll go breezing through the comics or playing with the cars and am amazed with the amount of money spent acquiring these items over the years...priceless to me, absolute junk to others. My collections are so personal to me and I find it very therapeutic to immerse myself in them from time to time.

The comic books and Hot Wheels cars draw the most attention..... I guess they make people feel young again.

I am a pack rat that was raised by pack rats, but why blame them. My favorite collection used to be old Coca Cola "stuff", but they started releasing so many reproductions that I lost interest about 15 years ago. I also have a decent collection of cigarette lighters, from Zippo's to Wedgewood. My largest collection, however, would have to be my Bill Elliott collection. He's been my favorite NASCAR driver for as far back as I can remember, and I have everything you can imagine, and then some.

Hrm, have we run across each other on HL ever, Hoshi? I too collect Anime (26 DVD+Rs full (~4.25G each), ~200 CDs, 1 HD (80GB))

Other than that, I seem to be in the habit of collecting digital cameras... My count is currently at 4 (Olympus D300L, Olympus D490, Kodak Easyshare 3700, and a Canon Elph S110), with a possible fifth (Kodak LS443) soon...

yes we have run into each other on hotline i think.
do you remember an anime ring called TNK or AE
i remember an ultima on jww132's server he ran TNK
and the ultima i talked to on that server was the creator of an ultima anicon.

i used to run a hl server called hoshi[AE][SB] cable or photek's anime

there was one other hoshi anime server, some guy from japan that would capture episodes from his tv.

do you still hang out on HL ever? the last time i went looking around HL things have changed a lot. there's nothing free anymore and there's half the servers up now.

the digital camera that i want right now more than anything is the olympus camedia d-550 $250
its 3 megapxls and 2.8X optical zoom
such a good deal for the money right now.

what i would like most of all is something with a manual phocus and a movable lcd screen
¬.¬ hella xpensive

since i lost my cable connection ive been drooling over all the series im missing out on like

chobits
saishuheiki kanojo

have you looked at the canon powershot G2?
my dad just bought one over christmas, and it's really nice. the LCD flips out and turns. It's 4 megapixels and got some really nice features: manual focus, shutter priority, aperature priority, manual, auto mode, etc. Also you can take up to 30 seconds of movie (with sound) at 15 frames per second and a 320x160 or 120 seconds at 160x120. (Note that I'm trying to cite the resolutions on the movies from memory, so they aren't perfect). It is $500, but they just put out aa G3, so the price'll drop a bit I'd expect. The only thing it's lacking is the option to change the startup screen and all the sounds. the G3 has this though.

the olympus im looking at is really great becuase its only 250$ thats an amazing price for what it has. the power shot is $500 and it only has 1 more megapixel a manual phocus and movable lcd display. ok well that is a deal but... i just dont have $500 to blow on a camera :(
plus the memory card is gonna be another hundred and then you need a memory card capture device etc...

although not intentionally, it seems like my house is a haven for older macs. only three are currently running(2 indigo imacs and a 7100/g3 upgrade), but there's a stack of oldies on the table behind me and a couple in the attic, i think. from the bottom up of the stack: 6100, 6100, IIsi, LCIII(and an old school 40mb external HD and a cd drive that you need to put the cd into a cassette-type thing). and in the attic are two SEs and a 128k. there are probably others hiding around here somewhere, but i can't find them/remember where they are. 10 macs seems to be a pretty impressive collection, wouldn't you say?

I also used to collect native orchids and cacti but as I have grown older I have realised that such things should be left in their own native environments and their native ecosystems should be protected from thieves and vandals so that such things are there for my childrens childrens children to enjoy, too.

I collect seeds now and grow tens of thousands of new plants to be replaced into their depleted ecosystems, each year. This I do for the birds and the lizards the insects and the Koala, the Platypus and the Sugar Glider. I collect the pelts of feral cats, they only cost a bullet each.

I collect old coins too.
I used to collect postage stamps but they are too easily damaged by freak weather conditions, bad storage and insensitive buffoons.

I collect thoughts and characteristics. On paper. I collect things I think of, things others think of and behaviors of different people. things they do and things they say. I like to sit on park benches and write about how people act. I have tons of scrap books on thoughts and attitudes of the human characteristic. I guess I collect moments on paper, maybe someday i'll figure out why, but Its fun to go back over what you've written and compare different people.

Well... its fun for me.
