| Change the Startup Phrases spoken by Speech Recognition
I was always jealous that Captain Kirk's computer would talk to him.
Now, thanks to this edit by Doug Polk, your computer will greet you with two customized sounds when Speech Recognition is starting up!
When you start your computer with Speech on, it speaks two phrases:
Here are instructions on how to change them.
Open a copy of the Speakable Items extension in ResEdit.
Find the STR# resources and open them with a double-click.
Open ID # 129.
Item number 3 is the first phrase (Speakable Items is starting up). Which I changed to "Hello Captain, please stand by...".
Item number 4 is the second phrase (Speakable Items is ready). Which I opted to make, "Link established. Ready to accept commands."

Some caveats: Item 3 is spoken a little too fast, and item 4 is a touch too slow. In addition, you may want to experiment writing your phrases phonetically in order for them to pronounce correctly (for example: "Hello Capten...")
As long as you have the original copy stored safely away, you can continue to tweak your phrases by editing the loaded copy of the extension, just make sure Speech recognition is turned off.
