| Link Netscape's Throbber to your Email Helper Application
This sleek edit, submitted by Michael Munger from MacObserver, links the throbbing icon in Netscape to launch you favorite email client. The first thing you will need is your email client's creator code. Three of the most popular programs are listed below:
- CSOm for Eudora
- MSNM for Outlook Express
- MMan for Claris Emailer
If yours isn't listed, open the email application in ResEdit and "Get Info..." to get the creator code.
In the Preferences folder, under Netscape Users in your user folder, are the Netscape Preference.
Open the Preferences in ResEdit and find the STR# resources.
Open them with a double-click. There is only one ID number, 2003. Open it and scroll to the bottom.
From the Resource menu, select Insert New Fields. Do this twice to create two empty item boxes.
In the first box, entry the creator code for your email client.
In the second box, enter mailto.
When finished, save the Preferences and close the windows.
Next, open a copy of Netscape in ResEdit and find the TEXT resources.
Open them with a double-click.
Open ID number 3011, 'config'.
Scroll down several lines and find the line beginning with: config('toolbar.logo.url" and replace the long http: URL with mailto as shown in the picture on the left.
Save your work and quit ResEdit. When you launch this modified copy of Netscape, the Throbber, and all mailto links, will open a new message window in your email client!
