Modify SoundJam's Thumper Plug-in by Michael Coyle
Like XMMS (Linux) and WinAMP (Windows), SoundJam offers some great visual plug-ins for your enjoyment while listening to music, but why on Earth did they fill them full of odd little psychedelic cartoons!
Nothing against Chris DeSalvo, but today's simple edit will show you how to remove the smiley face from his Thumper plug-in, and if you wish, replace it with another image.
You can find the Thumper plug-ins under Visual Plug-ins in the SoundJam's Plug-ins folder.
Open a copy of Thumper in ResEdit and find the PICT resources. Open them with a double-click.
Behold Thumper. Don't let his small size fool you. He's really a 256x256 pixel image.
You can easily replace him with any image, but the closer you come to the original size, the less scaling you'll notice in full screen mode.
Double-click on PICT ID# 128 and paste in your image.
In this example, I used the Smiling Mac logo.
If you're like me, you'll want to take the thump out of Thumper.
Just delete ID#128 and you'll be left with the dazzling patterns.
Save your work and quit ResEdit.
After you've made your modifications, take the original plug-ins and place it in another folder (how about a new one called Disabled Plug-ins!). Put the new one into the Visual Plug-in folder and launch SoundJam to see the new effect.
