Change the Security Key Chain Sounds in MacOS 9

This handy tip by Glenn Batuyong will show you how to change the sounds when locking and unlocking your keychain. If you're looking for cool Mac sound files, head over to Click Sounds and see if you can pick out some replacements. After you have new sounds you'll need to edit the Security Library in the System Extensions folder.

Open a copy of the Security Library in ResEdit.

Find the snd resources and open them with a double-click.

here are the three sounds that can be played for different actions.

Audition them by typing Command-T.

Jot down the sound name and the resource ID. Then delete the sounds you wish to replace. Open the replacement sound is ResEdit, then open its snd resource and copy the sound file to the clipboard.

Switch back to the Security Library and past in the replacement from the clipboard.

The new sound will have the wrong ID number, so from the B menu, select Get Resource Info.

In the Info window, change the ID number of your new sound to match the number you jotted down earlier.

Repeat this for each of the sounds you wish to replace.

When finished, save your work and quit ResEdit. Replace the original extension with the replacement and restart the computer. You new sounds will be ready to use!
