Remove Italic Style from Alias
Over the past several months, many of you have asked about a replacement for the old control panel, Alias Styler.
Alias Styler, and similar utilities, would remove the italic font from an alias, giving you the option of plain or bold text. All of these utilities were broken by MacOS8, and no updates or replacements have appeared.
This week, thanks to the efforts of Scott Kevill, I have a simple hack to set the alias font to either bold or plain text!
Open a copy of the Finder Preferences in Resedit.
(The Finder Preferences are located in the System Folder -> Preferences).
Find resource fvl8 and open it with a double-click.

The only ID is 128.
Open it with a double-click.
At the end of row two, is hex 02
(I've highlighted the location, which I've already changed to 00).
Highlight 02 and change it to the following:
00 for plain text
01 for bold text
Save your changes and quit ResEdit. Replace the old Finder Preference with the new one, and restart your computer. Then make an alias to see the change!
