| Change AOL 4.0 email message reply.
This little tip was devised by Guy Thompson after he noticed that the Windows version of AOL had a more descriptive email reply header.
AOL for Windows replys:
In a message dated 8/1/99 12:00:01 PM Eastern Daylight Time, whomever writes:
While the Mac only says:
In a message dated 8/1/99 12:00:01 PM, whomever writes:
Using this edit, Guy's response is now the same. Unfortunately, he needs to use ResEdit twice a year to for Daylight savings time.
I like my reply header a little shorter, and in the example below, I'll show you how to change to whatever you would like!
In the AOL folder is a another folder called Online Files.
In there is a file called US Data. Open a copy of that file in ResEdit. Scroll down to the STR# resources and open them with a double click.
Find ID# 203 and open it.
This is where AOL "builds" the sentence that gets displayed in your email reply. If this were a math class. I'd say:
As long as you keep those two "variables" in your sentence, you can add whatever you would like.

I like my responses to be short. so I would use this sentence. Unfortunately for this edit, I do not subscribe to AOL. It would be interesting to see if you could leave the Date and Time variable out of the sentence would it still work, showing just the senders name.

After changing the STR# resource, save your changes and quit ResEdit. Replace the original file with the modified one. Launch AOL and reply to an email to see the results!
