Change the location and icon for "My Netscape"
Do you configure Netscape for your company, or a lab at school? David Grant needed an obvious Help Button for his users to push. The objective of this edit is to redirect the seldom used My Netscape toolbar button to another location, or even an html file on the users hard disk.
Open a copy of Netscape 4.0.6 and scroll to the TEXT resources.
Open them with a double-click.

Find ID# 3011 and open it with a double-click.
Find the line that begins as pictured below and replace the Netscape URL with your own. You can even put in a paste in a path to a file on the local hard disk, or a shared volume.

That changes the location the button points to, now you need to change the text under the button.
In the copy of Netscape, scroll to the PPob resources and open them with a double-click.

Find ID#1100 and open it with a double-click.
Scroll down through the Hex to about line number 390. You will see the word Netscape (8 characters long).
In this example, we'll replace it with the word Help (4 characters long).
Highlight the word Netscape, and replace it by typing Help.
Now switch to the Hex side of the window, and highlight the byte right before the word Help. It should be 08. Replace it with 04. It should now look like the graphic above.
That's all for Netscape 4.0.6. Save it, but don't quit ResEdit. We still need to change the icon.
The icon is stored in Netscape's Essential Files folder, in a file called Netscape Rsources.
Open it with ResEdit and find the icl8 reources.
Open them with a double click.
Scroll down to icon number 15153.
In this example, I'm swapping the little suitcase icon with a balloon help icon I copied out of the Monitors and Sound control panel!
Once you have replace the four icon set (matching the graphic above), you can save your work and quit ResEdit.
The next time you launch the modified Netscape, the toolbar button will be renamed, and take you to a new location!
