 If you frequent this site, chances are you probaby have Kaleidoscope running on your computer. Many of the new color schemes now come with their own system icons and default folder icon sets.
Creating your own custom application folders for use with a favorite Kaleidoscope scheme can be a time consuming process. So overwhelming, that most people never bother, opting instead to use the "lite" version of a scheme, or simple living with two icon styles.
Deluxe Folder Icon Creator is a utility that greatly simplifies the process of custom application folders. The only problem is it only lets you choose from four folder styles.
This week, we're going to patch Deluxe Folder Icon Creator (DFIC) to work with other folders. After we finish, you may think your icon patch is the greatest thing since sliced bread! And you may want to to bundle the modified version with your latest Kaleidoscope scheme, but remember, it would be inappropriate to do so without the permission of the author, Jim Cushing.
 Open a copy od DFIC with ResEdit and find the icl8 resource, opening it with a double-click.
 DFIC lets you select three different types of folders, and one floppy in which to "paste" your application icon.
I'm choosing to replace the standard MacOS8 folder
(ID# 402), with my favorite blue folder.
If you want to keep the OS8 folder, simply select ID# 400 or 401 instead.
Open your choice with a double-click.
 Since I've choosen ID#402, I'm going to paste my favorite icon inplace of the old one.
Remember that you can create the other icon bit depths and sizes by dragging icl8 into the other boxes.
 When you're finished touching up yoour icon, close and save your work. When you launch Deluxe Folder Icon Creator, you'll be greeted by a new folder choice.
I have several copies of DFIC on my hard disk, each customized with several different folder styles, so that no matter which new Kaleidoscope color scheme I install, I can quickly change all my other folders to match!
