| Change the icon in IomegaWare Tools
Regarding the previous edit to add color to Zip drive icons, Joe Spinelli sent this helpful tip:
If you use the iomega driver provided with the Mac OS, the icons are in black and white. However, if you update to the IomegaWare 1.1.3 available on many sites, including Iomega's, the diver extension supports color. However, to utilize this you must format all existing zip disks that were formatted with the Mac OS supplied driver.
As Joe states, you need to reformat your Zips to get the new icon, and you must reformat using the "Tools" application. You will still get the black and white icon if you erase the disk using the Finder menu command.
Why is this? It seems the driver still has one bit icons, but the Tools Application copies an invisible colored icon file in to the Zips that it freshly formats!
The next logical step is to change the boring color icon that "Tools" sticks on the Zip disk!
After downloading a replacement icon from info-mac, open a copy of Tools in ResEdit and find the icl8 resources.
Open them with a double click.
Icon 200 is used when Tools formats a Zip. Open the editor and paste in the replacement icon.
After inserting the new icon, save your work and quit ResEdit.
Now when that copy of Tools formats a Zip disk, your new icon will be used!
