Change the font used by GoMac 1.5

Nathan Wood asked:

I use
GoMac and have altered my appearance extension to use a different font. I was hoping you might have some tips as to how I can hack GoMac 1.5.1 to use the same font so my desktop can look uniform.

First, we need to pick a font and font size. For this example, I'll use Tecton, a bit mapped font. (I have also performed the edit with TrueType fonts without bitmaps, and that also works.)

In the System Fonts folder, find the font you want to use and view the different sizes to see which one appeals to you most.

Open the font, or font suitcase with ResEdit.

Find the FOND resource and open it with a double-click.

Scroll down the list until you get to your chosen font.

Note the ID number, in the case of Tecton, 9729

You can now close the font in ResEdit.

Open a copy of GoMac in ResEdit and find the GMsf resource.

Open it with a double-click.

Open ID#-13152 with a double-click.

For item number one, enter the font ID number (Tecton 9729), and your selected font size (12) in the area I've shown in red.

If you want GoMac to use the font selected as the System Menu font in Kaleidoscope or Apple's Appearance control panel, then change Font and Size to 0 (zero).

(thanks Anthony Saxton)

Save your work and quit ResEdit. Place the modified GoMac in the Control Panels folder and restart your Mac. This edit, when used in conjunction with the edit "Altering the System font", allows you to get a nice, consistent look in GoMac.
