Change the default name of Clippings.
I use some of Blue Sky Heart Graphic's desktop consoles, the ones with the raised icon dock on the right. I like to keep the names of my desktop items short enough to comfortably fit in the icon dock. Text Clippings and Picture Clippings are two names that hang over a little bit too much. Here's how to change them.
 Open a copy of the Finder in ResEdit.
Scroll down to the STR# resources, and open them with a double-click.
Find ID# 9700, and open it with a double click.
 Strings 8, 9, and 10 represent the default names when you drag an item to the desktop and create a clipping.
Change these items to whatever you would like.
 In my Finder, I changed the strings to text, pict, and sound. As you can see in the graphic, these smaller names look fine, and sit better in an icon dock.
After you have finished renaming the strings, save your work and quit ResEdit. Replace the old Finder and restart the computer. Any new clippings you create will have the new names. |
