Put the "Check Mail" menu item back in Communicator's Browser.

In older versions of Communicator, there was a menu item/command key to check your mail. Sure you can click the little envelope icon, but PowerUsers love command keys. This a very simple resource edit to duplicate the Get Messages menu from the Mail window into the Browser's menu bar.

Open copy of Communicator with ResEdit, and scroll down to the MENU resource.

Open it with a double-click.

Scroll down till you find the Get Messages ID. We need to jot down the ID number of 26 for later.

You should do this yourself, even though we've done it here, because different versions of Communicator may have different ID numbers.

In this example:

Get Messages = ID#26

Close the MENU resources.

Scroll up to the MBAR resource and open it with a double-click.

Communicator creates several different menu bars depending on which part of the program you're using. In this example, we want to add an item to the Browser, so open ID# 128

The first four Menu resource ID's represent the Apple Menu, File, Edit, and View.

We can add Get Messages after View, so click once on Menu ID #5 to select it.

From ResEdit's menu, select
Resource->Create New Resource.

This will add an empty ID# 6.

Type 26 in ID # 6

Save your work and quit ResEdit.

The next time you launch Communicator, you will have the new Get Messages menu, and under it will be Get New Mail with a command key of T.
