| Make MoviePlayer the default media handler under Quicktime 4.0
Next up on Celebrity DeathMatch Wrestling: QuickTime Player IV versus MoviePlayer III !
Harold Bakker doesn't like the look or transport controls on QuickTime Player. As today's guest editor, he provides an easy way for you to keep using MoviePlayer as your default media tool. Don't worry, you'll still have the QuickTime Player if you need it.
Open a copy of the new QuickTime Player in ReEdit and from the File menu, select Get Info.
Change the creator code from TVOD to TVOP.
TVOP is a dummy code I made up. It's only function is to disassociate the QT4 Player from Quicktime in the desktop database.
The Player will still work, but you will have to open any files from within the application.
While QT4 Player is still open, open a copy of the older MoviePlayer in ResEdit.
Find the vers resources and open them with a double-click.
Open ID #1
Change version 3 to something higher. In this example, I made it version 5.
This will stop the error message: "Requires Quicktime 4.0 or higher".
Once you have done this, you can close the vers windows.
If you want to keep the "way-cool" new icons, you need to continue with these additional steps:

Select all the icon resources (shown above) in QuickTime Player 4 and copy them to the clipboard.
Select MoviePlayer 3 and paste them in. From the dialog box, select Yes to replace the same ID numbers.
And finally, from the QuickTime Player, copy the BNDL resource to the clipboard and paste them into MoviePlayer.
Again, from the dialog box, select Yes to replace the same ID numbers.
That's is. Save your work and quit ResEdit. You need to take the original copy of the QuickTime Player and delete it.
Restart your computer and rebuild the desktop (holding down the Command-Option keys).
MoviePlayer will now be your default application for QT4 media. You will have the original transport controls, and when you resize a movie window, you won't be left with the huge QuickTime Player border.
