| Replace the Finder Pictures "About this Macintosh"
This purely ego pumping edit was suggested by Philip Gabbert, the webmaster of Guice's Place.
If you select "About this Macintosh..." from under the Apple menu, you'll see two pictures in the window, one of the world, and one of the small MacOS smiling logo.
This week, I'll show you how to change those two pictures into ones of your own. The first one, the world picture, is 248 x 82 pixels. The second, the MacOS, is 61 x 48 pixels. Your replacements should be the same size.
You can create your replacements in any graphics program; just be sure to save them in the PICT format.
Once the replacement pictures have been finished, open a copy of the Finder in ResEdit. Keep your graphics program open too, because you'll cut and paste between the two programs
Scroll to the PICT resources and open them with a double-click.

The only two ID's are 4000 and 4001.
They should look familiar!

Switch to your graphics program and copy to the clipboard your replacement picture for ID 4000.
Open ID 4000 in ResEdit, and paste in your new picture. Make sure the new graphic is the correct size (248x82). It should drop right in.
Close ID 4000, and repeat the procedure for the smaller picture (ID 4001).

Here are my new pictures pasted into the Finder copy.
It's OK that ID 4000 doesn't look scaled correctly in ResEdit. It'll look fine when viewed in the Finder "About..." window.
When you are finished, save your work and quit ResEdit. After you rename the Finder copy, and replace the original in the System folder, be sure your System folder has the special MacOS folder logo. If it doesn't, open and close the folder again, and make sure you didn't accidentally put the Finder in another folder (for example, Extensions or Fonts).
Once your set, restart the computer and admire your work!
