Another round of snapshots for Tuesday is laid out:

• Savan Kong’s “Danger Girl” desktop picture and the Aqua Theme debut in this submission from Joe Acevedo. Audion, retro-fitted with the Reintegration Graphite face, is serving up music in the upper left-hand corner, while iTunes tickles the eardrums along the right edge. Selections from Xicons, Cartoon Network, and Icon Factory roam the desktop.
  
  
• Phil Ackley sends this snapshot bearing the custom “Surf” desktop picture. iTunes is sitting in as digital DJ in the lower right. The Links text-only web browser is running in a terminal window on the left, and Son of Weather Grok is handing out forecasts in the lower right.
  
  
• Timothy Breihan gives us a sneak-peak of a Pink Floyd-inspired desktop picture he’s currently working on. iTunes provides the working music in the upper left-hand corner. Icons from Xicons are clustered along the bottom.
  
  
• This OS X 4K78 screenshot from Jason Lamb sports his personal website. Evidence of Drop Drawers is seen on the edge, and Son of Weather Grok provides a forecast in the upper left-hand corner.
  
  
• Patrick O’Kelly of Cube Wrapper fame is back with this snapshot featuring his soon to be released Mercury Lens K-Scheme and matching “Mercury Lens” desktop picture. iTunes, hacked beyond recognition with a custom Studio Texture, is kicking out soundwaves in the lower left-hand corner. A smattering of icons by Mozco, Pseudoroom, Søren Karstensen, Ron Watson, HS wOrks 2, Icon Factory, Hein Mevissen, Rick Roe, Lee Kaufman, and Akio, not to mention of a few of his own, are scattered throughout.
  
  
• This OS X Beta contribution from Rob Rix sports the “Chairs” desktop picture. Music Player is taking music requests in the upper right-hand corner.

My favorite email program is Eudora. Qualcomm recently released a 5.1 beta for MacOS X, but it took a little investigation to get it to use the same mail folders as when I boot into classic.

In Classic, Eudora places its preferences and mail folders in the "Eudora Folder" in the System Folder.

By placing an alias of that folder in the Users-Documents folder, the two versions of the program under two different operating systems can share their settings.

Under MacOS X, Apple has made it tougher to use the root account (which is really odd to me. Either you have root access or you don't. Don't make it tougher for root to log in, make it tougher for users to masquerade as root, but I digress....).

Geoffrey Scott sends this tip:

In order to be able to use your root account, do the following:

1. Open a terminal window.
2. Type sudo /bin/tcsh
3. enter your user password (not the root password, which you haven't set yet).
4. Type passwd root.
5. Enter the password you want to use for root.
6. You can now use your root account as you normally would, i.e., from a login window, or by typing su root in a terminal window.

AOL has released a new version of their IM client! This carbon app runs native under both Classic and MacOS X. The rapid response of companies like AOL and Qualcomm porting their apps to MacOS X bodes will for Apple's new OS.

• Bj Rampton didn't forget a single application with all these splash screens for Microsoft products. He sent an Office set, Explorer, and Outlook Express screens.

• Matthew Fusaro, and the 13 year old son of Dean Fusaro (the youngest of this artsy clan) submits his first ever desktop to the archives titled "Bullseye". His older brother and dad have been making desktops and he thought he would give it a shot. Comes in 800x resolution.
  
  
• "Dimentia", a 3-D desktop by Bradford J. Wiles is just plain cool. Enjoy this awe inspiring creation in 1024x and 832x resolutions.
  
  
• "Mirage" is another other worldly 3-D masterpiece by Bradford J. Wiles, and comes in 1024x and 832x resolutions.
  
  
• Steve Sobek generates an apocalyptic vision with his 3-D rendered "On Fire" desktop. This fiery scene comes in 1024x resolution.
  
  
• While rummaging around in my backlog of waiting to be posted desktops, "Just" Silver" by our good friend Xochi just stood up and screamed "post me post me". While not taking no for an answer, this stylish metallic backdrop comes to light in 1152x resolution.
  
  Stroll down memory lane with "Cherry Poptart" by Patrick Sanders. An adult comic icon from the 70's... expresses her interest in a certain computer in 1024x resolution.

The Devil's Desktop has been updated with 6 new desktops and 1 new icon set "Batman".

Little Dark Room, has undergone a major redesign. Icons and desktop pictures are still available to download, and there's also a new section under development.

'Dean's Desktops updates with 5 new desktops.

Dragon Tongue has released another of his unique 'Separator' icon sets. This one is called 'slots and rivets".
