Today's News by Cletus Safaricon 1.1.2 is the very popular program for changing Safari's user interface by installing icons as well as other application resources such as nib files localization files. SafarIcon comes bundled with a small set of high quality icon themes and more themes are available at the website. Version 1.1.2 fixes the following: - Fixed a bug when saving custom theme
- Fixed URLs when downloading themes via Safari rather than SafarIcon.
- Fixed info string for Safari Default after theme download.
Pith is a cool program for Safari that allows browsing multiple window a breeze. It shows the open windows in a floating palette, but it's primary purpose is to recover the sites that were open if Safari crashes. If you are looking for a way of making Chimera Navigator look as good as Safari does, you will want to stop by Happicon and pick up Safari buttons for Chimera! A preview of the buttons can be found here. Change Startup Disk allows you to quickly choose between OS 9 and OS X with the click of button. Change Startup Disk is an AppleScript. Process Wizard 1.18 is now available. It is described as a menu hack that allows you to access to all the processes of your system (applications, background applications, user processes, non user processes) and to change their priority (Unix nice value). Ctrl-Click on a process to kill it. What could be simpler. Here is what has changed: - Now Jaguar compatible !
- Now use the API supported by Apple to deal with menu items.
- The window in now draggable, and will be fully positionable in the final release.
- The full path of the process is now displayed as a tool tip.
- Wheel button is now supported to scroll the list.
- Fixed a major bug where the application freezed when a process with no associated path was present.
The highly popular program Drop Drawers X has been updated. More great work from Sig Software. They have added compatibility with wider range of URL types. Fixed flicker in Cocoa applications when opening floating drawers as well as several other minor fixes and improvements. SwitchRes 3.0b7 is the excellent program that is a menu extra that will allow you to switch the resolution of all your monitors. - While I can't take any credit for the great artwork, this set of eight Marc Moscow Icons originate from some Illustrator templates by Marc Moscow design studio, located on Adobe's Studio Exchange website.
- Got that feeling lately that our government is about to run amok? Jeremy Burnich thinks so, and created a set of nine Scary Government Icons, featuring the signs and symbols of these unsettled times.
- Brushed Metal Gravity Well desktops by Peter J. Sucy is another set of desktops derived from the Gravity Well image, this time with a brushed metal theme. The download includes two desktops @ 1280 x 1024 resolution, one with dock areas the other without. Also included is a set of brushed metal aqua widget icons for DiskSpy, that will look nice on a menu bar from one of Max Rudberg's Brushed themes.
- The kind folks over at Digikitten keep on sending us loads of great desktops to share with ResExcellence readers. By way of introduction, one of Digikitten's missions has been to provide a free place for digital artists to display their work without having to pony up for a server. Sexy Momma by Peejay is the next awesome desktop we have the good fortune to post from this ongoing display, and is available in 1024x resolution.
- Graphic designer Reggie Pulliam sent us a really cool looking set of free form desktops for your downloading pleasure. The second from this unique series is titled "Ice Cold Tornado", and is available in three different resolutions.
- Matthew Postinger submits a kinetic looking Apple centric desktop simply titled Matt's desktop. Comes in 1024x and 1280x resolution.
- You never know what Bob Booten is going to come up with next. Today's elegant selection from the author is a great looking desktop titled Reflections On Life, and comes in 1152x resolution.
- Krishna M. Sadasivam of PCWeenies fame, sends us another of his experimental 3-D desktops rendered in Maya 4.5 titled "Space Puffs". This one comes in 1024x resolution, and in four different "flavors"

Tools of the Trade by Michael Coyle Strong Bad uses The Cheat's iMac !  | One of the best sites featuring Flash animations is Homestar Runner. I can't get through the week without enjoying a Strong Bad email. Recently I had the pleasure of interviewing the two brothers who run the site and create the content. You can even download a set of Homestar MacOS X icons! A little announcement for all you REALbasic lovers! Because of Erick Tejkowski's teaching schedule this semester, his REALbasic news and tutorials will be moved from a Tuesday/Thursday schedule to Wednesday/Friday. So watch for his next update on Wednesday. Study the snapshot on the right. Believe it or not that is a Windows XP desktop! Dan Sauve sent a list of Windows sites that work hard emulating the MacOS X interface. This is a follow up to my comment on the Apple Dock.app clone under XP. - AquaXP: They have an aquaBrowser, aquaMail, aquaFinder, iBlink to add menu blinking, iTalk, aquaVolume, offer the Apple fonts, and even an About this Mac thingy for Windows!

Derek Gordon is persistent! He emailed Eluminix, the makers of the cool backlit PS/2 keyboard and pressed them on the release of a USB version. Here is their reply: We are in the process of developing many different version of the EluminX Illuminated Keyboard, including wireless, ergonomic and multimedia keyboards. I found this Netscape 4.7 splash screen buried under one such ice flow. :-) Created by iArt, the splash features a brilliant nebula and the familiar light house.
