Today's News by Cletus
Since I will be off next week, I wanted to add this into the news as it just came in Simone Manganelli sent in a notice that his wonderful Memory Usage Getter has been updated to version 2.0.2. It is a favorite of mine, especially since it is so darn hard to get a good read on the memory Mac OS X uses. I know, I know, you can use the terminal, but it is so abstract to me. Try this out once, and your memory usage becomes clear once again! Changes in this version include several changes since the last release such as major features additions: like the Help Viewer help documentation. The internal help documentation is all new, not just the one FAQ, auto-refreshing is also a new features, and the ability to round the numbers to a specified number of decimal places is new.
Coela is a nice up and coming file browser, pointed out to me by Len Ford. It has been updated for system 10.1.5 and functions in the Classic environment as well. It looks very comprehensive and is able to view graphic files as well. The page is in Japanese, but boasts several screenshots. If you are having trouble with the link, please try this: <http://www.bekkoame.ne.jp/~iimori/sw/Coela.html>
Classic's Apple Menu adds the familiar Apple menu to the Mac OS X system. This release now displays a functional mini-preview of your old OS 9 desktop, and allows to launch Carbon software under Classic, from OS X.
If the Show Info command does not serve you well, and you do not want to use a third party program to get these features, you may be interested in InfoDog which adds features to the existing Show Info command. The following is a list of features added to the command from the readme.
- Set creator and type
- Change unix file privileges
- Drag file path info from InfoDog to any application.
- Change Owner and Group info
- InfoDog has an integrated file browser
- Supports Drag and drop to and from info windows.
If you like to doodle on a pad while thinking or talking on the phone, you may like to continue this form of drawing on the desktop directly! And I am not talking about the desktop that holds your computer either, rather the computers desktop itself. Desktastic 2.0 allows for this. Changes in this update include:
- Graphical tool bar (no longer just keyboard controls)
- Ability to draw on top of all apps, not just on the desktop
- Ability to change line widths & opacity
- Text tool

For the interested, I've posted an article on the path that let me to the studios. It starts at the tender age of seventeen and includes pictures from way-back-then when I still had hair! (Continued...)
