Replace the Help menu text with an icon. (MacOS 8.x)

Today's edit was discovered by HÂkan Hjorte.

Previously, ResExcellence showed you how to rename the Help menu. Now you can remove the word and replace it with an icon.

Open a copy of the System suitcase and find the STR resources. (nder MacOS 9, open the System Resources file).

Open them with a double-click.

Find ID -20451 (which contains the text "Help").

Select it with a single click and delete it. To reiterate: delete the whole ID, not the text string.

At this point, if you were to save your work and replace the old System suitcase, the old Help menu would now have the Balloon icon ID -16490.

In my example, I replaced the Balloon icon with a bar similar to the Application menu.

After changing the icon, save your work and quit ResEdit. Replace the System suitcase and Restart the computer to see your new icon.
