Add more colors to your AOL mail

The latest version of AOL 5.0 only gives you 16 colors for use in your email and Instant Messages. This simple edit inspired by Joe Lushinski will give you over 200 web save colors! This edit does not require that the receiving copy of AOL also have the edit.

Open a copy of the AOL application in ResEdit and find the CLUT resource. There is only one ID, number 2001. Open it with a double-click.

Once the palette is open, as shown above, you can add individual colors by typing Command-K, then clicl on the new black square to edit the color.

If you want to add a web-save palette with over 200 colors, open Internet Explorer in ResEdit, and copy CLUT ID # 512 to the clipboard.

Paste the Explorer CLUT into AOL. It will still have ID 512. Delete CLUT ID 2001. Get info on ID 512 and change its number to 2001.

Save you work and quit ResEdit. The modified version of AOL 5.0 is ready to use.
