High-Tech your Netscape with new colors and icons
It's obvious from the download statistics at the Kaleidoscope Scheme Archive that the dark high-tech look is a favorite. The problem is most application windows steadfastly cling to the Platinum Appearance.
This two step edit helps peal away a few more layers of Platinum and bring a nice dark look to your web browser.
Open a copy of Netscape in ResEdit and scroll to the ppat resources.
Open them with a double-click.
ID# 10000 is the background color for the toolbars.
Open it with a double-click.

Select a darker color, and using the paint bucket, fill in the entire pattern.
You can now close ID 10000 and the ppat resources.
We are done modifying Netscape. Save your work.
In the Netscape Folder is a folder called Netscape Essentials. Inside there is a file called Netscape Resources. Open it in ResEdit and find the icl8 resources.
Open them with a double-click.
All the icons that Netscape uses in the toolbars are located here.
They come in groups of four, with the second of the group representing an unselected icon.
You can edit your own to match your favorite Scheme, or for starters, download this set from the Users Contributions Icon page.
Don't forget to also modify the icl4 , ICN#, and the Mask for each icon.
When you're done modifying the icons, save the Netscape Resoures file, launch your modified copy of Netscape, and enjoy the new view!
