Until every application supports Navigation services, Mac users will have to deal with a hodgepodge of various Open/Save dialog boxes. This edit submitted by Ben Lukens can help add some consistency.
The key to this edit is that you will need to perform it on several of your applications. To the DLOG resources is most of my commonly used applications took about half an hour and I was surprised at how much I appreciated the results.
In order to enhance my Open and Save dialogs, I use Dialog View, so I started there. The following instructions applied to all the applications I modified.
After opening the DLOG resources, find the ones relating to the Open and Save dialogs. Not every application has them, some use the generic ones in the System folder.
In fact, they may only have one of the two types: an Open or a Save!
In Dialog View, the correct ID numbers were -4044 and -4039.
In the System suitcase, there are four DLOGS to change:
-6943
-6043
-4000
-3999
Now that you know what ID's to look for, what do you do with them!
Open the DLOG ID and select the Custom Color radio button.
Using the Popup menu (as shown on the left), select a Content color.
Tip: If you are having trouble finding the Open/Save dialog boxes in an application, open the DLOG ID and double-click on the mini-dialog box in the preview window to see a full size representation.
Once you have found the correct DLOG resources and changed the Content color, you can add a title bar with a name by setting the DLOG Characteristics by selecting the menu item shown.
Enter the window name. For example, "Open..." or "Save As...".
Tip: The three ellipse dots (...) are typed with option colon.
Set the Proc ID to 5
Save your work in each application and the System suitcase and restart or relaunch to see your work!
As I stated in the beginning, this will take a little time to modify the System and several applications, but I hope you find the results are worth it!
