Change Gramotki Window Colors

This week, we'll take a look at Gramotki, a shareware replacement for the Apple supplied Stickies note program.

Gramotki has a lot of nice features, but one of the preferences I miss from Stickies, is the ability to set the default note color and size. Your new notes always appear as
yellow! (yuk, IMHO)

I'd like my new notes to be a light gray, matching the Apple Platinum Appearance, and while I'm at it, I'd like them a little smaller too!

In the Gramotki, the menu item called Note let's you set the color of a note once you make it. The first choice is Yellow.

Since the program seems to make the first choice in this menu the default color, I want to change
Yellow to Platinum. This will forever eliminate the possibility of a Yellow note, and that's fine with me!

Open a copy of Gramotki with ResEdit, and find the MENU resources. Open them with a double-click.

ID#5 is the menu we want to change, so scroll around to find it, and open it with a double-click.

This section is mostly cosmetic. It doesn't actually determine the color of the note, but having the menu name and color match the resulting change in the open note is a nice touch.

Click once on the menu item "Yellow" and change the Text entry to "Platinum".

In red, I've circled the popup menu that determines the text color. Use it to change the color of the text from yellow to any medium gray. When finished, it should look like the graaphic on the left.

Now for the nitty-gritty of our edit.

The wctb resources contain the instructions to draw a new note window.

Open them up with a double-ckick.

ID# 129 controls the yellow note.

Open it with a double-click!

There are three items we will change in this window:

the Contents color,
the Frame color,
and possibly the default new note window size.

You can see the changes I made to the circled areas.

The Content color is a light gray, the Frame is a little darker, and for extra credit, I dragged the window size a little smaller (since I usually type in a short little reminder).

That's it. You're finished. Quit ResEdit and save your changes. Your new and improved version of Gramotki will now make a nice Platinum window whenever you create a new note.

On the left, you can see the finished result.

If you wish to be adventurous, you can replace menu item #5, Gray, with Yellow (but why would anybody want a yellow note!).

If you have any comments or suggestions for edits, drop me a line.
