Software News: by Cletus Can MacWorld handle us? Yes! But what about the pubs?
St. Clair Software has updated their wonderful Default Folder application to version 3.0.6. This version offers a new popup menu to speed access to favorite and recently used folders in the Finder. It also includes a fix for a bug that could cause corruption of Default Folder's preference file. AppleWorks 6 and PowerMail have been added to the exception list of applications that require Navigation Services. The upgrade is recommended for all users of 3.0+.
Gilles Berkovitch has been very active with Glidel recently. Once again it is updated to version 5.0.2. This fix removes the alert that would sound at the end of a "poorly coded application selection drag."
One of the newest members of the ResExcellence Software Archive has been updated. Installer Observer by Zachary Schneirov has gone to version 3.0.1. What is new?
Typing command-"." while examining system states will not cause other windows to also be dismissed
Scans can now be canceled with command-"." in addition to examinations
Graphical glitch which arose when creating packages has been fixed
I hate to go backwards, but I have just removed a piece of software from the archive! After a few weeks maybe months of deliberations, Jerome Foucher has decided to stop further development on DeskTray. I have removed the link.
"DeskTray is completely stopped, for sure. I still give support for existing users, but don't accept new users." Additionally he writes: "For others, A-Dock will have a major update soon to v2.1."
Many people have written to me about the dead link on this piece of software. Unfortunately or fortunately the answer has now been provided.
Clare N. Shumway wrote in to recommend a useful application. While it is not truly GUI, it does appear to be something ResExcellence readers may like. AliasMultipler by Angelo Scicolone creates Multi-Aliases which allow alias' to be linked to more files and/or applications. Useful if you wish to open folders for editing and open ResEdit at the same time. I have not tried it, so if others agree this is a worthwhile addition to the archive, drop me a note.
Themes and Schemes news:
The Kaleidoscope Archive updates with 14 new and 7 updated schemes. Striking a chord this time round is Prelude, Haunted House and Teak. The others are nice but they just don't strike a chord! :)
